Discussing the representation of cultural diversity in Antigone (2019) with Sophie Deraspe

An event organized in the context of the proseminar Intercultural Film Analysis: Cultural Diversity in Contemporary French-Canadian Cinema

In the context of the proseminar “Intercultural film analysis: cultural diversity in contemporary French-Canadian cinema,” Charlotte Kaiser and Viktoria Sophie Lühr will discuss Sophie Deraspe’s latest film, “Antigone” (2019) with the director.
Deraspe’s adaptation of Sophocle’s Greek tragedy plays in the socio-culturally diverse milieu of the Québec metropolis of Montréal. We will talk about the director’s motivation and the general setting of the film as well as the depiction of cultural diversity in the French-Canadian cinema. The event is organized with the support of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) Diversity and the Intercultural Research Center on Québec and the North-American Francophonie.
