Folke Gernert is professor of Romance Literatures at the Universität Trier. Her research interests include the production, circulation, reception and literary representation of knowledge over time and across borders. Currently, her work addresses the question of how certain scientific disciplines became associated with ideas of the occult and esoteric. She has taught various classes on the interrelatedness of scientific knowledge and its literary representations at the Universities of Köln, Kiel and Trier. Many of her numerous publications focus on questions of the textualization of occult and scientific knowledge as well as on literary constructions of the body as a medium of meaning within these inventories of knowledge. Folke Gernert’s expertise in Hispanic cultures broadens the IRTG’s geographical and cultural horizon. Her connections to other international experts in her research areas as well as her participation in international research projects provide highly valuable perspectives and opportunities for collaboration. Gernert currently supervises three doctoral dissertations and has furthermore supervised a large quantity of Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses.
